CIV CONFESERCENTI
CIV
Chiavari
Gateway between the Graveglia, Aveto, Fontanabuona and Sturla Valleys

CHIAVARI (GE)
“Le vie del Levante”
The most widely shared hypothesis by scholars on the ancient origin of the name Chiavari is that the name derives from ‘clavaro‘, meaning key.
Chiavari, in fact, thanks to its strategic position, is the key to access the surrounding valleys (val Graveglia, val d’Aveto, val Fontanabuona and valle Sturla).
When visiting Chiavari, be sure to purchase the local specialty: corxetti, disc-shaped pasta stamped with wooden moulds bearing various symbols. You can savour them with pesto or walnut sauce.
In the map of the “Wander, Wonder, Shop” project by Confesercenti, you can search for all the businesses that belong to the 8 CIVs, by name or by product category. In the 19th century, Chiavari was the capital of the province, sparking its urban and architectural development.
